With the wide variety of skin tones, it is not always easy to find the right makeup products. So today we shall discuss how to get the best make up products and colour matches in terms of our Indian skin tones. Understanding one's skin tone is very important. If you do not understand your skin tone and type it is difficult to choose the right product and get a beautiful natural look.

At the outset, you have to see if you are using all the wrong makeup! Next you have to understand your skin tone and undertone to choose your foundation. The skin tone is usually what your foundation shade is matched to—it is the natural skin colour that you see on the surface. However, the undertone is always either olive or yellowish. When you look at your skin, you should be able to tell if the undertone is green or yellow. In India, the undertones are mostly olive or a yellowish-gold.

To select the foundation, apply it in the upper jaw line area till your neck area. If the foundation disappears into your skin, then that specific shade is your skin tone. It could vary from light to medium, medium to dark or dark to rich. You must note that your skin tone can keep changing depending on the weather, your location and exposure to sun. If you visit a warm region your skin tone will be on the darker side. However, your under tone will stay constant and never change.

How to find the right foundation for Indian skin tones:

1. The foundation you choose should always be yellow tone based.

2. Never try the foundation on your hand as the skin shade is different from that of your face.

3. If the foundation makes your face look fairer, it is too light. If the foundation looks muddy, it is too dark.

4. You must also do the application on the forehead as sometimes women have more colour on their forehead and chin than the rest of their face.

How to find the right concealer for Indian skin tones:

Corrector and concealer are the key tools of professional make up. It helps women look less tired, brighter and fresher.

1. Start with a corrector first—it is designed for very dark circles and for the days when you need more coverage. It brightens and neutralises discolouration that some women have under the eyes.

2. When you apply the corrector, use a brush starting at the inner corner underneath the eye, step back and make sure that your corrector did what it was supposed to do. If it is not too white and it has enough brightness, then apply the concealer on top to make sure it is covering the redness.

3. The concealer should always be one or two shades lighter than your skin colour or foundation. Test it on your forehead and the side of your face—if it blends in, it is the right colour. If there are two different tones, go for the warmer color.

4. Finally apply powder with a brush. This will set your corrector and concealer. Pale yellow powder works on almost every Indian woman's skin tone.

Translucent Powder versus Banana Powder for Indian skin tone:

Translucent powder works well for those with light skin tones, as it appears white in colour and is undetectable on the skin. However, on darker skin, it can show up more leaving you look not so natural in photos. So, blending in a banana powder is the ideal way to get a high definition makeup look that is not overdone. If you are prone to redness, the yellow-toned banana powder can colour correct your skin. You can put the banana powder on with a brush, sponge on powder puff. Where you apply it depends on what you want from it—it can act like a highlighter if you apply it to the cheekbones and a mattifier if you apply it over concealer under the eyes, on the T-zone and on the chin. After your foundation, add a layer of creamy concealer to any area of the face you would like to brighten, like the under-eye area, or to cover any blemishes. Then, using a makeup sponge, apply the banana powder over all of the areas you have just concealed and leave it for some time while you work on the rest of the face. During this time, the heat created by this layer of powder will set your concealer, while the powder itself will soak up any excess oils on your skin. Then eventually dust off the powder with a fan brush.

Which eyeshadow do you choose:

For dark skin tones, finding the perfect eyeshadow can be, well, challenging. Even though it seems like all shades are completely universal, the truth is that some weren't made with melanin-rich skin in mind. The secret is really in the undertones.

Dark skin tones can have a variety of undertones, but these undertones really make a difference when it comes to finding the perfect makeup. The key is to seek warm tones. Since dark skin is so rich, try bold colours like gold, copper, tangerine and bronze. It is always better to avoid frosted shadows which can leave Indian warm skin looking dry or ashy. If you are still unsure, swipe the color on your skin. If it has a white, ashy or gray tint, ditch it. You can choose plum, emerald, bronze shadows instead. You can also use pink, purple, rose gold , magenta, lilac, sunshine yellow etc in creamy texture and the options are endless. It is always recommended to keep a neutral eyeshadow palate with you for a natural day look. You can also look beautiful experimenting with smokey eyes if done properly.

Finding the perfect lip shade for your brown skin tone can be quite a task but worry not as options are not less either. Lipsticks are a safe play for an immediate confidence boost. Be it at a party with friends or a job interview, a swipe of any beautiful lip shade can make you feel ready for the world. So finding the best lip shade for your skin will definitely make you a winner.

A classic red is the King of Classics; from start to end it has always been a winner and a favourite for brown skin tones. A classic red lipstick is one of the biggest confidence boosters. It makes your skin tone look rich and radiant. Red colour symbolizes a royal look in India. It can even be used to create the perfect blurred lip look.

Brown Mocha is an earthy tone which again looks almost like a beautiful nude on brown skin. If you want the perfect nude lips for your skin tone you need to try mocha shades which are essentially shades of brown lipstick.

Plum shades are gorgeous on brown skin; especially Indian skin tones. A rich shade of plum can go from a night at the club to a fancy dinner date. A sexy plum lipstick will undoubtedly make you feel assertive and confident. So spice up your look with spicy plums lips.
